Arthritis causes pain and swelling in the joints. It is more common in older pets, but even younger pets can get it from injury or genetics. Arthritis makes it hard for pets to move comfortably and can cause pain and stiffness.
⚠️ Signs
- Limping or favouring one leg
- Stiffness or difficulty standing up after resting
- Not wanting to jump, go up stairs, or exercise
- Licking or chewing joints a lot
- Changes in posture (e.g., a hunched back or trouble walking)
- Swollen or warm joints
- Behavioural changes (e.g., being grumpy, not playing, or avoiding people)
🏥 What To Do
- Limit activity: Avoid activities that put strain on your pet’s joints, like running or jumping.
- Provide a soft, warm bed: Make sure your pet has a comfortable, supportive place to rest.
- Gentle massages: Lightly massage the affected joints to improve blood flow and reduce discomfort.
- Apply heat: A warm cloth or heating pad (on low) can help soothe sore joints. Make sure it’s not too hot to avoid burns.
- See a vet: If you think your pet has arthritis, take them to the vet. They can recommend pain relief, joint supplements, or other treatments.
