Burns can happen due to fire, hot surfaces, boiling water, chemicals, or electrical accidents. They can damage the skin and deeper tissues, causing pain, infection, and even shock.
🚨 Severe burns need urgent vet care!
⚠️ Signs
- Red, swollen, or blistered skin
- Burnt hair
- Dark or charred skin
- Whimpering, shaking, or signs of pain
- Licking or biting at the burned area
- Trouble breathing (if smoke inhalation is involved)
🏥 What to Do
🚨 Act quickly to reduce damage and pain!
- Move your pet away from the heat source immediately.
- Cool the burn with cold, clean water for at least 10 minutes. (Do NOT use ice!)
- For chemical burns, rinse with running water for 10–20 minutes. Avoid scrubbing.
- Do NOT apply butter, oil, or ointments—they trap heat and make it worse.
- Cover the area lightly with a clean, damp cloth or non-stick dressing.
